It all started with asking my 3 year old granddaughter a simple question:
"Whitney Ryan, what do you want Nana to get you for Christmas?"
Whitney Ryan's response was "Nana, I want a scary zombie doll" I'm thinking cute baby dolls and bright play kitchens and she's thinking creepy and dark!
We googled zombie dolls and she pointed with excitement to frightening images of dolls with ashen skin and dripping blood. I was shocked that this was the Christmas wish of a 3 year old and she would not let it go!
After many fruitless attempts to find a friendly zombie doll suitable for a 3 year old, I decided to quickly make one knowing it would become just an afterthought under the tree once the bright, shiny new toys with all the bells and whistles caught Whitney's attention. To my surprise the little bright green doll with stitches and stapled clothes was the hit of Christmas morning!
Whitney could not stop hugging her scary little baby doll.
All the expensive gifts under the tree were left unattended as the other children frantically looked for their zombie dolls.
After many tears and a few shouts of " why does Whitney get a zombie doll and not us?" I redirected their attention back to Christmas morning with the promise that Nana would make a special zombie doll for each of them....
I was at a point in my life where I had the opportunity to watch my 3 grandchildren full time and I desperately needed something creative to occupy our time. What started out as a simple question developed into a labor of love between Nana and her grandchildren.
We decided to make our dolls a bit scary, always merry, and the doers of good deeds.
Our dolls needed a story and a song, and then a charm bracelet.......and the children needed to learn that "kindness rules" and being nice to your cousins is cool.
These dolls kept the peace on many long summer days and tapped into my long lost passion for design.
Whitney named her doll "Whit Walker, the good deed stalker". Aubrey named her doll "Aubs til dawn righting the wrong", Ace named his doll "Ace all night keeping it right".
The creative juices were flowing and our imaginations were working over time as we created our own magical world of Zombie babiez... ..soon we were getting requests from friends and relatives for their own Zombie babiez.
Painting a few dolls for your grandchildren is one thing, developing an entire line for a young audience is on a whole different level!
Thank God my sister Lisa agreed to partner with me on this adventure! To the naked eye these Zombie babiez may look easy to make , but trust me, there is a lot of time, sweat, and love put into each babiez.
Each doll is hand dyed, painted, stuffed and approved & signed by Whitney Ryan. Each outfit and bracelet is handmade and the story and song are originals by yours truly. We designed our own logo and created the concept of earning hearts for good deeds.
Zombie babiez will satisfy your child's attraction to scary things, spark their imagination, and teach them that kindness is always the answer.
FYI - Adults love them too!
Welcome to our magical world of Zombie babiez. "They roam at night to make the world right"
Best, Pam
